Happiness Is a Decision
People have given different definitions of happiness, although these definitions are similar, they still point to different things. Happiness is a state of mind, but it’s not clear if it should be called a right or a privilege, so we’ll use this writing piece to explain what happiness is. We’ll first capture the difference between rights and privileges, before revealing the category that happiness falls into. A privilege is just a special treatment given to a person which can be revoked at any time, and the special treatments come with certain conditions. Rights are those things that every human is entitled to naturally, meaning that they’re irrevocable, so it’s considered a crime to do anything that will deny a human’s right.
Humans are created equal, meaning that everybody on earth has equal rights to things that nature has ordained, and the pursuit of happiness is a superb example. It’s easy to get unhappy, but experts have shown that happiness is a decision that everyone makes, meaning that your reaction to events happening around you will determine if you’ll be happy. Happiness is not a privilege that can be given to a person, meaning that it’s the right of every human on earth to pursue happiness. Finding happiness can be a daunting task, especially if you’re not capable of making yourself happy, meaning that you need other people to give you happy moments.
Happiness is the vital essence of humans which is why it is being pursued in different ways. Getting true happiness starts when you’re content with the things that you’ve got at every stage of life. Being happy or finding happiness is a decision that comes from within, and without making such decisions, you’ll be open to emotional strains that can keep you sad. It’s difficult to maintain a happy state as there are things that are constantly looking to make you sad, so accepting that you can’t change or get everything is a positive step towards achieving happiness. Choosing happiness gives you the power to defeat disappointments, as you’ll be prepared to take any outcome, and move on with living your life happily. Being content doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t strive to make your life better, instead it means that you should do it with your heart filled with happiness.
From the points we’ve discussed, it’s clear that happiness is not a privilege, nor is it a right, instead happiness is a decision that everyone should make for themselves. Once you’ve decided to chase happiness, then you’ll see that nobody has the power to take that happiness away from you which means that you decide your mood. Even though it’s difficult to avoid sadness, humans should decide to chase happiness because life is more interesting when there is happiness. Being sad or unhappy can stop you from enjoying even the best moments of your life, so try to create your happiness even if there’s nothing to be joyful about. See it as a duty that should be completed, and it’s proven that you’ll achieve more when there is happiness.
